Weekday activities
Our Recorder Group meets on Fridays during term time from 4.15 till 4.45 in the church. The group began in September 2008 with beginners and welcomes new members aged 7 and above. We now have a beginners group and a more experienced group. The players take part from time to time in services and concerts. Last December they played in a concert at the Dietrich Bonhöffer Church in Forest Hill. HHUC Youth Choir meets on Fridays during term time from 4.45 till 6.00 in the church. Formed in 2002, the choir welcomes boys and girls aged 8 and above who enjoy singing, whether or not they attend church. The choir sings a variety of music at various events, from church services to community concerts to entertaining senior citizens. Last year the choir celebrated its 9th anniversary with a performance of Holy Moses, a jazzy setting of the Old Testament story. We took part in several special events throughout 2011, including the 50th Anniversary of our church building. At our Christmas event we sang and acted out the German legend of the Christ Child. Hilltots Toddler Groups meet on Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 10.00 till 11.30 am in the church hall. The two groups operate separately but on similar lines. Everyone helps set up and clear away the toys, sand, paint and ride-ons. There is also some singing, lots of fun and it's a great place to make new friends! We organise a variety of holiday workshops for children. In the Easter holidays there was a craft workshop and in the summer a recorder workshop was held.
We occasionally take the children on trips to concerts or the theatre. In September 2008 a group went to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Wimbledon Theatre. In March 2009 a group went to see KCL's production of Gilbert & Sullivan's The Sorcerer at the Greenwood Theatre. In November 2009 we took a group to the Ashcroft Theatre, Croydon, to see Seussical the Musical, in which one of our members took part. In October 2010 we went to see The Garbage King and in January 2011 Beauty and the Beast at the Unicorn Theatre.
