Groups and Activities
In serving God we offer care and support to those in the community, and those in need here and overseas. We enjoy working together in a variety of ways.
Tuesday Lunch Club
Our monthly lunches continue to be very popular with people from our community, both church members and others. They are held on the second Tuesday in the month at 12.30 pm. Everyone is welcome, but it is best to book in advance on 020 7274 2640 or 020 7274 3174. We would welcome more volunteers to join our catering team. Would you like to help us?
Amnesty International Group
The Amnesty International Group in our Church lights its candle on the last Sunday in the month at 6.00 pm. We write letters to Heads of State, Ambassadors, etc. about men and women whom Amnesty International considers to be prisoners of conscience. Our group meets regularly and we urge everyone, whether from our church or not, to support our little group's efforts whenever they can.
Fair Trade
In co-operation with another local church, we run regular Traidcraft stalls after the morning service, and the purchases made there help workers in third world countries to get a fair price for their labours. Some of us also help in the Traidcraft shop locally.
Trade Justice
We are part of a group of activists including a dozen local churches. Recently we met with our MP Tessa Jowell and the Minister for International Development, Gareth Thomas, at Westminster. We were asking for
- fairer terms for the less developed countries in trade agreements with the EU

- the speedy appointment of an Ombudsman to prevent unfair purchasing practices by the supermarkets,
- clamping down on tax avoidance by multi-nationals in developing countries.
House Groups
Two House Groups currently meet monthly. Both are studying Adrian B. Smith's "Tomorrow's Christian , a new framework for Christian living."
Christian Aid
We collect throughout the neighbourhood once every year, during Christian Aid Week. Last year we raised over £3,000.
Prayer Fellowship
Every Thursday at 9.30 am, some of us meet to pray together for ourselves, our community and the wider world. On the first and third Thursdays of the month we meet at St Faith’s, also in Red Post Hill, to share in their mid-week Communion. On the other Thursdays, we are joined here at Herne Hill by the St Faith’s people. The meeting is always followed by coffee and a friendly chat.
Adult Choir
We have an Adult Choir (as well as the Youth Choir) which sings at special services such as our annual Carols by Candlelight and our Good Friday Choral Service. Singers from other churches in the neighbourhood often join us for these occasions.
Our work with children also reaches out into the community.
We welcome community users of our premises.
