Herne Hill United Church

Music

Music is an extremely important part of our worship at Herne Hill United Church.

Our organist Peter Thompson accompanies our worship on our new organ, a The cellosViscount Concerto III, installed in early March 2005, or on our keyboard. Our youth choir, run by the church's Music Coordinator Sue Thompson, often leads the congregation in singing more modern worship songs. Every now and then Sue also organises an all-age orchestra to accompany the worship.

On special occasions, the choir is expanded and strengthened to include all ages and all voices: for the last three years it has led successful Good Friday services featuring the music of Stainer and Schütz. In July 2005 and again in July 2006 the Youth Choir was joined by a specially formed ladies' choir to put on a summer concert for charity. 2006's concert traced the life of Moses through songs from the choirs and sketches from the Whales Drama Group from Christ Church East Dulwich.

In 2007 the Youth Choir combined with the Whales Drama Group at Christ Church in a performance of "Joseph"
